About me

About me

Hi, and welcome to my blog. So my name is Arlette Cundrič and I was born in march of 1972. That makes me….how old? OMG! Let’s forget this information as soon as possible ;).

If I would have to describe myself in a few words, I would use: open, direct, hospitable, opinionated, family person and animal lover.

Orginally I come from the Netherlands but permantly moved to Slovenia in september of 2003 with my Slovene husband. In january of 1995, while on holiday with my brother, I met Bine there. We actually met in a disco when he came up to me, pretty drunk, and started a conversation. Because I don’t drink and really DO NOT like drunk people, I was not very amuzed. Luckily we met again the next day when he had sobered up 😉 and got to talking.

The next morning Bine picked me up early and we went for a beautiful walk through the area. He turned out to be a truck driver and had to wait at home for a call from his boss to find out when he had to leave for another ride. They didn’t have cell phones yet, back in 1995. He took me to his home where I met his parents. He didn’t have to leave that day and we had a lovely time. He turned out to be a really decent guy. A few days later, he was called to drive to Croatia, near the Bosnian border. He would stay away for 3 to 4 days. Our vacation lasted only 6 more days and I definitely wanted to see him more. So I asked if I could go with him and he immediately responded very enthusiastically. That’s how I ended up in a truck with a boy I’d met 3 days earlier, on my way to a unknown destination, that was also in a warzone (the Yugoslave wars). I unconsciously felt that I should try to find out as much as possible about him in those few days. We talked about everything and I asked him a lot of questions about his life, his thoughts and believes.

I enjoyed his company and everything I saw along the way. That changed as we got closer to the Bosnian border. I was shocked to see the first village shot to pieces. Of course, I knew about the war and I had seen the images on TV. But to see it with your own eyes ….. the bullet holes in the walls, the deserted villages. We drove on for a while, both silent. I suddenly wondered how it felt for Bine, to see his country like that. I turned my head to ask him this question and saw him cry silently. Tears ran down his cheeks. My heart filled with love for this man and I knew I never wanted to let him go again. At that exact moment, I fell in love with him. Luckily, he felt the same way about me. We decided I would come to Slovenia the next month to live with him. The same year, on september 7th, we married. We lived in Slovenia for a year but were forced to move to the Netherlands because of all the bureaucracy. For 7 years we stayed in the Netherlands, where our son Larsen was born in 1999. In 2003 we decided to try again and moved back to Slovenia, which has turned out to be the best decision ever. A year later, our daughter Lexi was born.

We had a rough start for the first few years but are now at a point were we are comfortable, happy and enjoying life to the fullest. Because I love to write and would like to share my joy for life with you, I started this blog. Please enjoy!
